Marcus and Mellie became close while working on Mellie's Presidential Campaign. At first Marcus did not like Mellie very much, but he later warmed up to her telling Mellie she would be a great president.
Season Six[]
Olivia warns Mellie against dating and sleeping with Marcus Walker, as it will distract her from her campaign. Through flashbacks, we find out that Marcus taught Mellie how to throw a baseball, after Mellie successfully throws the baseball in for the first pitch, she then celebrates with Marcus by drinking Moonshine and that leads to them having sex on her desk. Cyrus Beene (by request from Olivia Pope) offers Marcus the position of White House Press Secretary, Mellie does not want him to take the job but he does against her request. ("Hardball")
