Kavita Patil - born in Brooklyn, New York - is an American television and film actress who portrays the Chief of Surgery on ABC's Scandal.
She is best known for her role as Sergeant Kayla Medawar on the CBS military-drama The Unit. Kavita’s television career began in 2001 with guest appearances on FlashForward, Dexter, Lie to Me, Hawthorne, Sons of Anarchy, Las Vegas, Gilmore Girls, Bones and Lost. She had a brief two-episode arc on Parenthood 2011 as well as Strong Medicine in 2004.
Kavita’s made her feature-film debut in 2004 in a short film called The 'Bathroom' Agreement. Her other film credits include Cornered (2011) and Rising Shores (2007). She has also appeared in the following TV movies Transit (2005) and The Madness of Jane (2008).
She made her first appearance on the series in season two, episode Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
