About
The character of Jerry Grant, Jr. (IV) was a supporting character who made his first debut appearance in the last half of the third season but after his death he was only mentioned ("referred to") in Season Four. History
Biography
Jerry was born sometime after his father became governor of California, and is named after his grandfather. Despite wanting children, his existence was a source of pain for his mother as she was secretly raped by her father-law and unsure of Jerry's paternity. Along with his sister Karen, he attended Boarding school away D.C.
Interview
Jerry came to the White House with Karen to do a family interview. During his stay, it was revealed that he was secretly tweeting against his father under an anonymous name and was planning on wearing a Reston campaign shirt for the interview.
Death
On the night before Election Day, Jerry is suffers a massive seizure while standing behind his father during a speech. Olivia Pope later informs the press outside a hospital that Jerry has died from Bacterial Meningitis. While still at the hospital, Tom Larsen tells Fitz that a substring of the meningitis bacteria was stolen from a lab just a few days earlier; meaning that Jerry was actually murdered. Rowan also convinces Fitz that Maya Lewis is responsible. It's later revealed though that Tom was the one who poisoned Jerry under Rowan's orders as part of a plan to get Olivia to leave Fitz and re-establish B6-13. It was also confirmed through a DNA test done by Olivia's team that Fitz was in fact Jerry's biological father.
Aftermath
Jerry's death is a catalyst for his most of his family's actions in season four. After going into his second term, Fitz takes on a more liberal agenda and focuses on gun control. Mellie initially goes into a deep depression over his death, but eventually pulls herself out of it when she learns about that he was murdered and becomes a junior senator. Karen also begins acting out in school and starts partying. Which leads to her ditching her secret service detail one night and has sex with two boys. One of which films the encounter. After the video is destroyed, Karen realizes with the help of their mother that her behavior was due to the pain of losing Jerry.
Relationships
Romantic
Mackenzie Miller
Before his death, Jerry was dating Mackenzie. Whose shown to be a fellow student at his boarding school. In the episode Flesh and Blood, Mackenzie tells Jerry while they're making out in his dorm room that she wants to have sex now despite their previous agreement to wait after midterms. Mackenzie's change of mind was actually because she made a deal with Leo Bergen to get Jerry's DNA for a paternity test in exchange for admissions help into Harvard.
