Jasika Nicole Pruitt - in 1980 in Birmingham, Alabama - is an American television and film actress, who portrays Kim on ABC's Scandal.

Background & Personal Life

Jasika studied dance, voice and theatre at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She gave the commencement address to the graduating class of 2012.

She has been open about being a lesbian since she started dating women while she was filming Take the Lead. She was also featured in the "2010 OUT 100 list in OUT Magazine, and was photographed alongside Bruno Tonioli, Armistead Maupin, and Bill Silva for the issue.

In her younger days, she spent some time in show choir. Fans got a glimpse of her singing talent when she sang a short piece from "A Chorus Line" in Fringe's second season episode "Brown Betty." It made such a splash, Fringe fans started a petition asking Fox and the producers of Glee to book her as a guest star.

She's studying the production of graphic novels as she creates her own series, called "High Yella Magic".

Her name is pronounced "jah-SEE-kuh".

Career Background

Jasika is best known for her role in FOX's SyFy series, Fringe as Astrid Farnsworth; she stayed with the series from beginning in 2008 till it's recent end in 2013. Prior to Fringe she got her television break out as a guest star on Law & Order: Criminal Intent in 2005.

She had a small role in the motion picture She's Out of My League (2010) as well as Take the Lead (2006).
