Jack Coleman - born February 21, 1958 in Easton, Pennsylvania - is an American television and film actor, who portrayed Daniel Douglas Langston in the third season of ABC's Scandal.

Background & Personal Life[]

He was born John McDonald Coleman but changed his name to Jack Coleman when pursued a career in acting. John is married to actress Beth Toussaint, the have a daughter, Tess. Jack and Beth were married on June 21, 1996.

He graduated from Duke University in 1980 where he studied acting. He also studied acting at the National Theatre Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, and Writers’ Boot Camp. He also attended the Solebury School.

He is a sixth-generation grandson of Benjamin Franklin, in turn making him related to President John Calvin Coolidge Jr. and a remote descendant of the Earls of Orkney and the ancient Kings of Scotland.

Career Background[]

Jack Coleman is best known for his role as Noah Bennet on NBC Heroes. He appeared throughout the entire series of the show from 2006 to 2010. He gained notice in the TV community after replacing Al Corley in the role of Steven Carrington, one of prime-time television’s first openly gay characters on 1981 night-time soap drama Dynasty.

His breakout role was a four episode-arc on Days of Our Lives in 1981. After that he went on to appear in such television shows as The Love Boat (1985), Diagnosis Murder (1995), Touched by an Angel (1995), The Naked Truth (1998), According to Jim (2003), Nip/Tuck (2004), CSI: Miami (2004), Without a Trace (2004), Entourage (2006), The Mentalist (2010), House (2010) and Criminal Minds (2011).

Throughout his career Jack has had many recurring roles on well-known television series. Some of these roles include; Bill Forbes on The Vampire Diaries from 2011-2012, Senator William H. Bracken on ABC’s Castle from 2012-2013, Senator Rob Lipton on The Office from 2010-2013 and most recently on the final season (2013) of Burn Notice as CIA Officer Andrew Strong.

He has also appeared in many TV Movie’s over the years. A few of them are "Angels in the Endzone" (1997), "Replacing Dad" (1999), "Cow Belles" (2006), "Rock the House" (2011) and "Crash & Burn" in 2012 where he appeared as himself.

Trivia[]

  • This is not the first time he has portrayed a gay man; for his brief recurring role on The Vampire Diaries he also played a gay man, except the character of Bill Forbes was open and out. The two characters do share another similarity, they both died! Also his role on Dynasty as Steven Carrington was an openly gay man and Senator Rob Lipton on The Office.
